Expedition Maldives
The crystal clear waters were calling out to me and my friend Ebo, a local free diver on the island of Maafushi. Originally, the island was reserved primarily for locals, home to one of the few prisons. Now, it has become widely accessible to tourists. Traditional Maldivian living, fishing, and free diving were on my list of things to do. I wanted to emerge myself in the culture of an area primarily viewed as a vacationers paradise. Tracking octopus, spear hunting, learning about coral based huts and shelters, secret coral lagoons, and learning of Maldivian muslim culture were only a few activities Ebo had in store for me.
